Knitting & Stitching Show

Today I went to Alexandra Palace in London, to go see the knitting and stitching show. To be honest I was’t excited about this trip but when I got there I really enjoyed it.
Firstly I walked into a gallery of artists that create work from stitching and of course knitting. Looking at the artists creations, had really inspired me to add techniques into my artwork I do for my course. There were tones of sewing machines we got to try out and went to the size of a large chair.
At the start of the trip we got given an assignment brief which meant we had tasks to complete. I took lots of photos of artists work along with their name. I also asked about how they had created their work which was a big eye opener as I wouldn’t have thought to do that myself. Also we had to take visual recordings so I sat by the side of the corridor in front of artwork and copied what I saw. I worked fast as people kept walking past so I couldn’t keep up detail. Due to the lack of detail it drew an effect to the image and the real image itself were made out of wool and quilting so my drawing not being accurate makes sense to what I see in front of me.
There were loads of stalls where people sold fabrics and beads etc. I didn’t purchase anything as I wanted samples to add into my work but didn’t seam to get any. Overall it was such a good trip and an eye opener to textiles within art.
