Working at London Fashion Week 2018
I started college two weeks ago and I’ve already had the opportunity to go to London fashion week!!!! What a day it was, very exciting but gosh it was stressful. I was part of the dressing team which meant I had to help the designers with the fittings in the morning and also to dress the models for the show. Designers would come in with small suitcases and then pull out these amazing garments and it’s like woah!! Although I had to do a lot of steaming, I mean a lot of steaming to get all the creases out.
There were seven designers over all and twenty four models. We as a team had to make note of which models wore which garments and also if a model was to go on twice, we had to come up with an efficient plan so that the models would make it out on time for their second walk. Mainly the models that were first to go on where the ones that had to change outfits this meant that there would be enough time for us to quickly get them undressed and dressed again, ready to finish the show. It was not easy being in a very small room with make up artists, designers, models and the rest of the dressing team. BUSY. It was hard to move as such a small space and helping the models get dressed wasn’t easy but it was a challenge & we succeeded. I would have never thought that backstage would be that stressful and panicked. I have been to fashion shows in the past and models look so calm when they come out, but they are probably just thinking “ oh god I need to hurry up I need to hurry up and change AGAIN”.
Overall it was such an amazing opportunity and I would 100% do it again!!
